about dionysia

Welcome, my name is Dionysia. I am a theatre and film director, playwright and the founder of Resilience DTC, a dance theatre company that focuses on mental health through performance research.

With a track record of recognised achievements in theory and practice, I’ve dedicated myself to exploring human perception and the complexities of expression through movement and embodied storytelling. I am interested in the intersection of art, philosophy, and medical humanities, especially mental health and its psychosomatic effects. Since 2020, I have started implementing digital technologies in my research, experimenting for instance, with remote directing.

I call my approach phenodramatic as it employs phenomenology and psychophysicality to delve into the visceral depths of our inner bodies reshaping naturalistic acting and performance. In my work, phenomenology serves not only as a vital research tool but also as a source of creative inspiration. Using it alongside semiotics, I seek to reconstruct communication through postdramatic aesthetics in dance, theatre and film.

My artistic work revolves around the concept of suffering and its psychosomatic effects. I am also interested in human relationships and power structures and every condition relevant to crisis and conflict ranging from the environmental crisis to immigration and poverty. My practice integrates and promotes the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

I cherish every opportunity to work with academics, artists, industry professionals, scientists and students from diverse backgrounds. So, drop me a line, I’m excited to hear from you.
